Rock Creek is one of Montanas finest Blue Ribbon Trout Streams - located 26 miles east of Missoula, the river runs through over 50 miles of beautiful and unrestricted canyons with great fishing all the way along. The Cabins are located 9 miles off the interstate and set in a secluded canyon one mile off the river and half a mile from the main road. We are surrounded on three sides by forest service lands with a small stream (Brewster Creek) running through the property. A good example of the fishing in our area is by seeing all the Brook Trout and Cutthroat living in the small stream right out the front doors of the cabins.
Our cabins were built in the 1940's & 50's and we left them in there original form since our buying them in 1967. The water is still packed in from the well and the outhouses are just a few yards away. We have, however, put soft seats and heat into these true Montana bathrooms. The Cabins come equipped with pots & pans, dishes, silverware, sheets and towels, wood and water. They are clean and comfortable in a true Montana atmosphere.
Mar/Apr...Believe it or not, this time of year can be very good! The Rainbows are spawning and Nymphs are very effective. Midge, Blue Winged Olives and the Squalla are early season hatches. The weather can be unpredictable, so be prepared and always carry a Stonefly Nymph or two. May/June...The run off will affect Rock Creek at this time, but by mid-May the water should be dropping and clearing, thus some of the best fishing of the year will be at hand. The WORLD renowned SALMON FLY HATCH will bring up Rainbows and Browns from dawn to dusk!!! Most giant Stonefly patterns will work. July/Aug...Caddis flies hatch daily with evening having the most activity. Hopper patterns during the day, with elk hair and Trudes for Daddis. make sure you don't forget the Parachute Adams. Sept/Oct...Hoppers still work on hot autumn days. The Browns start moving and the Streamer season starts. Brown/Black Olive Buggers, Muddlers and Zonkers are favorite patterns. Weighted flies and sinking lines produce voracious hits and a chance of hooking the Brown of a LIFETIME!!!
